Google CEO Sundar Pichai arrived in New Delhi to attend the India AI Impact Summit 2026 and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Bharat Mandapam, signalling a strengthening partnership between the technology giant and India on artificial intelligence.
Shortly after landing in India, Pichai posted on X (formerly Twitter) that he was glad to be back and thanked his hosts for the warm welcome. He is scheduled to deliver a keynote address on February 20 at the summit, a session that is expected to set out Google’s roadmap for AI engagement with India.
The India AI Impact Summit 2026, described as the first global AI summit of its scale to be held in the Global South is hosted at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from February 16 to 21. It has drawn participation from over 110 countries and approximately 30 international organisations. Beyond Pichai, the event has attracted OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, and Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani, among other global leaders.
The summit also featured a high-level diplomatic meeting between Prime Minister Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron, during which discussions on AI governance, bilateral cooperation, and the global AI policy landscape were expected to feature prominently. The convergence of global tech leadership and heads of state at this summit marks a significant moment for India’s standing in the international AI order.
