The AI networking hardware and software startup has closed a major funding round as investor appetite for AI infrastructure capacity continues to accelerate.

Nexthop AI has raised $500 million in a funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, valuing the AI infrastructure startup at $4.2 billion, Bloomberg reported on March 10. Andreessen Horowitz joined the round alongside all of the company’s existing investors, including Altimeter Capital and Kleiner Perkins. Nexthop is headquartered in Santa Clara, California, with offices in Seattle, Dublin, Vancouver, and Bengaluru.

Nexthop builds networking hardware and software for AI data centers, the connectivity layer that determines how fast and efficiently GPU clusters can communicate at scale. The round arrives as demand for AI infrastructure capacity continues to outpace supply, drawing significant venture and institutional capital into companies building the physical and software foundations that AI training and inference depend on.

The startup had previously raised $110 million at launch in March 2025. The new round more than quadruples its valuation in under a year, reflecting both the pace of capital flowing into AI infrastructure and the strategic importance of networking as a bottleneck in large-scale AI deployments. With Lightspeed leading and Andreessen Horowitz entering alongside established backers, the investor syndicate now spans some of the most active names in enterprise and infrastructure investing.

Nexthop was founded by Anshul Sadana, who previously served as Chief Operating Officer at Arista Networks, where he led the company from its early days through its IPO and to a $100 billion market cap. Sadana’s background is in high-speed networking. He led switch development at Cisco Systems and is credited with pioneering leaf-spine architecture, which is now foundational to modern data center design. At Nexthop, he has applied that expertise to building custom networking hardware and software specifically engineered for the demands of AI training and inference at hyperscale.

Nexthop’s formal announcement of the round was expected Tuesday, March 10, per Bloomberg’s reporting.
