OpenAI Ropes In Meta Ad Veteran David Dugan as VP of Global Ads Solutions

With deep roots in digital advertising, Dugan is set to bring a fresh, thoughtful approach to monetization at OpenAI.

David Dugan, former VP of Global Clients and Agencies at Meta, has joined OpenAI as Vice President of Global Ads Solutions, a move that highlights OpenAI’s growing ambition in the advertising space.

Dugan brings over 12 years of advertising and agency leadership experience from Meta to his new role, where he will report directly to Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap. His primary focus will be building out ChatGPT’s advertising product from its current testing phase into a fully commercial offering.

Dugan has been clear about his vision: ads within ChatGPT will be governed by firm principles, designed to add value rather than disrupt the user experience. User data, he has emphasized, will not be sold to advertisers.

The appointment caught the attention of Kirthiga Reddy, CEO of OptimizeGEO.ai, who took to LinkedIn to congratulate Dugan on the new role. “Fidji is certainly assembling a dream team,” she wrote, nodding to the growing roster of seasoned talent joining OpenAI under Fidji Simo, CEO of Applications and herself a former Facebook executive.

With experienced leadership now in place, OpenAI appears ready to reshape how advertising works in the age of AI.
