Google is making a significant move in the physical AI space. Alphabet has officially announced that Intrinsic, its AI-powered robotics software subsidiary is joining Google as a distinct unit. It marks the end of Intrinsic’s run as a standalone entity under Alphabet’s Other Bets division.

Intrinsic was born inside Alphabet’s moonshot lab, X, where it spent roughly five years in development before graduating as an independent Alphabet company in July 2021. Unlike traditional robotics firms that build hardware, Intrinsic focuses exclusively on software and AI models designed to make industrial robots easier to program, adapt, and deploy without requiring thousands of lines of manual code from specialist engineers.

Its flagship product, Flowstate, is a web-based platform that enables developers without deep robotics experience to build and deploy robotic workflows. Late in 2025, Intrinsic also launched its Intrinsic Vision AI Model (IVM), which enables robots to understand their environment visually using standard RGB cameras with sub-millimeter accuracy.

The move reflects a broader strategic bet by Google on physical AI the convergence of foundation models, cloud infrastructure, and real-world robotics. By absorbing Intrinsic into Google, the company can pair Intrinsic’s robotics software stack directly with Google DeepMind’s AI research capabilities and Gemini multimodal models.Intrinsic CEO Wendy Tan White said: Combined with Google’s incredible AI and infrastructure, we’re going to unlock the promise of physical AI for a much broader set of manufacturing businesses and developers.

Before this integration, Intrinsic had already been expanding aggressively. In October 2025, it formed a joint venture with Foxconn to deploy AI-powered robots in electronics manufacturing facilities, a partnership now set to scale faster with Google’s resources behind it. The company has also partnered with NVIDIA, integrating its Flowstate platform with NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Omniverse tools.

This move positions Google to compete more directly with rivals like Amazon(warehouse automation) and Tesla (Optimus humanoid robots) in the race to build and deploy general-purpose robotics software. As AI rapidly advances in cloud and consumer applications, applying it reliably in physical, real-world manufacturing environments remains a hard, largely unsolved problem one Google is now betting Intrinsic can help crack.
Alphabet did not disclose any financial terms related to the integration.
