Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff revealed a sweeping AI overhaul for Slack one that, notably, goes far beyond basic chat automation to position the platform as a full enterprise workflow engine.<\/em><\/strong>

Salesforce has officially announced 30 new AI-powered features for its Slack platform, unveiled at a private gathering in San Francisco on April 1, 2026. Led by CEO Marc Benioff and Slack’s interim CEO Rob Seaman, the announcement marks yet another major step in the company’s ongoing effort to reshape its entire business around artificial intelligence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the heart of the update is a dramatically upgraded version of Slackbot, Slack’s built-in AI assistant. Furthermore, this follows a foundational January 2026 update that first gave Slackbot agentic capabilities, such as drafting emails, scheduling meetings, and searching through inboxes. Now, however, Slackbot has become considerably more autonomous. One of the most notable additions is what Salesforce calls reusable AI-skills<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps even more significantly, Slackbot can now operate outside<\/em> of the Slack interface itself. According to Seaman, the assistant can monitor desktop activity and draw context from a user’s deals, conversations, calendar, and daily habits. As a result, it becomes capable of generating proactive, timely suggestions and drafting follow-ups without waiting to be prompted. Salesforce has noted that robust privacy controls are built in, and users retain the ability to adjust permissions as needed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, Slackbot now functions as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) client, meaning it can connect to and coordinate with a wide range of outside tools and services. Crucially, this includes deep integration with Agentforce, Salesforce’s AI agent development platform launched in 2024. Through that connection, Slackbot can route work and questions to Agentforce agents, finding the most efficient path to completion with no human intervention required.

On top of all that, Slackbot can now transcribe and summarize meetings in real time. If a participant misses a key discussion or zones out, they can simply ask Slackbot for a recap, including a list of action items assigned to them. This feature, in particular, addresses one of the most common pain points in today’s distributed work environments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taken together, these updates reflect Salesforce’s broader strategic vision: to transform Slack from a team messaging tool into an indispensable, AI-native operating system for enterprise workflows. Benioff noted during his keynote that the five years since Salesforce acquired Slack had resulted in roughly two-and-a-half times revenue growth, with approximately one million businesses now running on the platform. The 30 new features are expected to roll out to users in the coming months, with availability varying by workspace and subscription plan.
