JPMorgan and BlackRock are among investors in the new Prometheus round for the physical AI startup, which launched in November 2025 with $6.2 billion in initial funding.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeff Bezos’ artificial intelligence startup Project Prometheus is close to closing a $10 billion funding round at a $38 billion valuation, according to a Financial Times report published April 21, citing people familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JPMorgan and BlackRock are among the investors in the round. The fundraising had not been finalized when the report was published. BlackRock declined to comment; JPMorgan did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project Prometheus launched in November 2025 with $6.2 billion in initial funding. The lab focuses on what the industry terms physical AI  systems trained to understand real-world physics, material behavior, and engineering processes, rather than systems trained primarily on text and images. Its stated application areas include manufacturing, aerospace, robotics, drug discovery, and logistics automation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vikram Bajaj, a former Google X scientist and co-founder of Foresite Labs, serves as chief executive. The lab has grown to more than 120 employees, drawn from OpenAI, xAI, Meta, and DeepMind, according to the Financial Times report. Bezos is among the initial investors and has been leading the fundraising effort alongside Bajaj, per the same report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The round, if confirmed at $10 billion, would rank among the largest single raises in AI history. It comes days after Amazon, the company Bezos founded, committed up to $25 billion in additional investment to Anthropic and secured a $100 billion cloud spending commitment in return. Bezos left his executive role at Amazon in 2021; Project Prometheus represents his first operational involvement in a technology company since that departure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Physical AI is conceptually distinct from large language models, which are trained on publicly available text and code. Physical AI systems require proprietary data on engineering tolerances, manufacturing processes, and real-world physics, which is scarce and difficult to collect at scale. That scarcity may partly account for the institutional interest from firms such as BlackRock and JPMorgan, given their scale at an early stage in the company’s development. The lab has not publicly disclosed commercial products or live deployments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
