Raleigh startup Cloneable captures retiring engineers’ institutional knowledge and converts it into autonomous AI agents; total funding now stands at $5.35 million.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cloneable, an AI automation company focused on infrastructure operations, closed a $4.6 million seed round on April 23 and simultaneously launched Cloneable Agent, a platform that captures expert workflows and deploys them as autonomous AI agents for utilities, energy, and heavy industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congruent Ventures led the round. First In, Overline, Bull City Venture Partners, and St. Elmo Venture Capital, the investment arm of utility customer Texas Area Telecom, also participated. The raise brings Cloneable’s total funding to $5.35 million since its 2023 founding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company’s core argument is demographic. For every worker entering the energy workforce, 2.4 experienced ones are retiring, CEO and co-founder Lia Reich said in the company’s press release. Energy demand is projected to double by 2050, widening that gap further. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The platform works by shadowing a human expert through existing desktop or browser-based software. It records the expert’s decisions and documentation in real time, then converts that contextual record into an AI agent capable of executing the same task independently. At launch, purpose-built templates cover make-ready engineering, permitting, and joint-use workflows in the energy sector, with the company stating that deployments reach usable output in as few as 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cloneable claims a measurable throughput difference between humans and agents on a single benchmark workflow: structural calculations for utility pole replacement or installation. A human engineer completes roughly 4,500 to 5,500 poles annually before reaching capacity. A Cloneable agent, the company said, processes between 2 million and 3 million poles per year. Reich estimated that for a mid-size engineering firm with five to 10 employees spending half their time on that work, the agent represents between $115,000 and $312,000 in annual labor that could be redirected. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company reported 100x annual recurring revenue growth between February and the end of 2025. Customers include American Electric Power, Southern California Edison, Burns & McDonnell, TRC, and Sigma, as well as agribusiness Perdue. Tate Stricklin, CEO of Texas Area Telecom, cited the field-to-back-office scope as the platform’s practical distinction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congruent Ventures partner Eliza Cushman, in the same release, described the investment thesis as a response to a gap she said persists across AI adoption in legacy industries: companies that build sophisticated data capture struggle to obtain high-fidelity data for their agents, while those focused on back-office automation lack grounded field data. “Cloneable has solved both,” she said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cloneable prices its field offering via seat-based licenses tied to each field-collection device. Cloneable Agent is priced on a per-token, usage-based model. Seed proceeds will fund expansion across public utilities, vegetation management, construction, rail, mining, agriculture, and manufacturing, according to the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The founding team, Reich, CTO Tyler Collins, and CRO Patrick Lohman, previously worked together as founding employees at drone company PrecisionHawk. The three have described the 2019 California wildfire season, during which their team deployed 150 drone pilots to survey transmission lines while hundreds of workers at a PG&E command center manually reviewed the resulting footage, as the origin of the company’s central concept. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
