Samantha Jacobson, Chief Strategy Officer at The Trade Desk, is set to join OpenAI to lead monetization efforts, according to a report by Adweek. Her exact title and start date at OpenAI were not disclosed at the time of publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trade Desk confirmed the appointment to Adweek. Jacobson will retain a seat on the company’s board of directors as it searches for her successor. “She will continue to play a critical role there,” a Trade Desk spokesperson said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jacobson joined The Trade Desk in March 2021 as VP of Strategic Partnerships and was elevated to CSO in February 2022. In January 2024, she also took on a part-time board seat. She spent more than five years at the company in total, leading strategy for one of the largest independent demand-side platforms in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to The Trade Desk, she spent six years at Oracle as VP of Strategy and Business Development for Oracle Data Cloud, overseeing global partnerships with companies including Google, Apple, Microsoft, Visa, and Mastercard. She has also held roles at eBay and American Express.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her appointment places her at the center of one of the more consequential commercial questions in the AI industry: how to build sustainable revenue streams from a product used by hundreds of millions of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OpenAI has been expanding its ads pilot and moving toward a self-service advertising platform for ChatGPT. A hire with Jacobson’s programmatic and platform background shows where the company’s monetization architecture is headed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jacobson’s appointment is part of a broader pattern of experienced commercial talent joining OpenAI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March 2026, David Dugan, former VP of Global Clients and Agencies at Meta, joined OpenAI as VP of Global Ads Solutions, tasked with taking ChatGPT’s ad product from pilot into a fully commercial offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That same month, Kiran Mani<\/a>, then CEO of JioStar’s digital division, was appointed Managing Director for Asia-Pacific. Based in Singapore and reporting to Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon, his mandate covers enterprise partnerships and go-to-market execution across India, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April 2026, Nitin Bawankule<\/a>, a veteran of AWS, The Walt Disney Company, and Google, was named Head of Enterprise Sales for India, with a mandate to scale enterprise AI adoption across sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
