Amazon Ring was dealing with a sharp rise in customer support calls during last year’s holiday season. To handle the load, it carefully tested more than 40 AI voice platforms before finally choosing Vapi, a startup that builds AI-powered voice agents for businesses.

Today, Ring routes every single one of its inbound customer calls through Vapi’s platform. That win turned out to be a game-changer for the company.

As a direct result of landing the Amazon Ring deal, Vapi was able to raise a $50 million Series B funding round. The round was led by Peak XV Partners, and it pushed Vapi’s valuation to around $500 million after investment, according to a person familiar with the matter. In other words, one major enterprise deal helped the company go from a promising startup to a half-billion-dollar business almost overnight.

Ring was deciding between three options at the time: expanding its call-center capacity, leaning more on old-school automated phone systems, or going with AI agents that could talk to customers in a more natural way. Vapi’s CEO Jordan Dearsley told that Ring ultimately chose Vapi because the platform gave Ring’s engineers a very detailed level of control over how the AI agents behaved during live customer interactions.

Simply put, Vapi didn’t just promise results it gave Ring the tools to actually shape and improve those results on their own.

Jason Mitura, Vice President of Software Development at Amazon Ring, confirmed that customer satisfaction scores went up after the company switched to Vapi. He also noted that Ring’s teams could tune the AI agent experience themselves, without needing to go back to the engineers every time.

ALSO READ : SCIKIQ Bags $1.5M in Seed Funding Led by Triton to Fuel Enterprise AI Growth

Vapi was founded by Jordan Dearsley and Nikhil Gupta, who were classmates at the University of Waterloo. Interestingly, the company didn’t start out as a voice infrastructure business. Back in 2023, Dearsley built an AI therapist app that he used for conversations during his daily walks. The two had previously gone through Y Combinator with a productivity startup called Superpowered.

However, things took a turn pretty quickly. While not many people wanted the therapy app itself, startups were very interested in the underlying technology specifically the low-latency voice infrastructure that made it work. That insight led the founders to pivot the entire business, eventually launching Vapi publicly in 2024.

Vapi’s enterprise business has grown 10 times since early 2025. That kind of growth shows just how quickly companies are shifting their customer support and sales operations from human call centers to AI voice agents.

This story is bigger than just one funding round. It signals a clear shift happening across industries businesses are no longer just experimenting with AI voice tools. They are replacing entire customer service operations with them. And startups like Vapi are proving that they can handle that responsibility at scale, even for a global brand like Amazon Ring.

As more enterprises look to cut costs and improve response times, the market for AI voice agents is only going to get more competitive. But for now, Vapi has a clear advantage: a real-world proof point with one of the most well-known names in consumer tech.

Disclaimer: This news is based on publicly available information.
