The funding round was led by Connect Ventures, with participation from Betaworks and N49P.

Founded in 2024 by Gabriella Hachem and Nim Cheema, Dessn is an AI design-in-production platform. In simple words, it lets designers and product managers prototype and explore UI changes directly inside their company’s actual codebase without writing a single line of code or setting up a local development environment.

Most design tools today, like Figma or Sketch, require designers to work on static mockups. After that, developers separately translate those mockups into working code. This back-and-forth slows teams down and often leads to mismatches between what was designed and what gets shipped. Dessn, however, flips that model entirely.

Instead of starting in a design tool and converting it to code later, Dessn starts from the codebase itself. It runs the codebase in the cloud meaning there is no manual setup required. Designers can then explore, prototype, and iterate on real product components, using their company’s actual design system. According to the company, connecting to a codebase takes just one click.

ALSO READ : Helsing Could Become Europe’s Most Valuable Private Defense Tech Startup

Dessn can pull code from a repository but does not push directly which means existing workflows stay safe. Current customers include Color (a health company), Wispr (a voice AI company), and Mercury (a fintech company). Some users reportedly spend more than five hours a day in the product.

For years, the gap between design and engineering has been a known pain point. Designers work in one tool, developers work in another, and users experience the final product which is often different from what was originally envisioned.

Dessn calls this the localhost problem. Historically, the only way to access a production codebase was to know how to code and run a local environment. That automatically kept designers and PMs out. As co-founder Gabriella Hachem put it: In a world where code is insanely cheap, design becomes the real differentiator.

Dessn is not trying to replace Figma for ideation from scratch. Instead, it targets teams that already have a codebase and want to improve it with AI-powered design tools. Notably, the startup has no plans to integrate with Figma on purpose. The reasoning: integrating with Figma would pull teams away from production, which goes against Dessn’s core philosophy. It also differs from tools like Cursor or Claude Code.

Dessn currently lets users compile one repository for free and try five prompts per week. Paid plans start at $39 per user per month, which unlocks higher usage limits, public sharing links, and the option to opt out of AI model training.

The company plans to use the funding to expand its team (currently four people), invest in compute, and build a community around its platform. Planned future integrations include Slack and Granola a meeting notes tool so that product discussions can feed directly into design prototypes.

Disclaimer: This news is based on publicly available information.
