Anthropic Hits $1 Trillion Mark as Tech Giants Compete Fiercely

Anthropic is now implicitly valued at $1 trillion on secondary markets after historic deals with Google and Amazon. A full breakdown of the AI race in 2026.
It has been an extraordinary week and indeed, an extraordinary year for Anthropic. The San Francisco AI company, founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers Dario and Daniela Amodei, is now at the centre of the most intense corporate investment activity in the history of artificial intelligence. Between April 20 and April 24 alone, Anthropic secured commitments worth up to $65 billion from two of the world’s largest companies.
The story begins in February. Anthropic closed a $30 billion Series G funding round, the second-largest private financing round on record for tech at a $380 billion post-money valuation, more than double what the company was worth in September when it last raised money.
However, just months later, the market’s appetite for Anthropic has grown far beyond even that remarkable figure. Secondary markets are now pricing Anthropic at approximately $1 trillion, overtaking OpenAI, which is trading at around $880 billion on the same platforms.
Furthermore, Anthropic’s growth is broad-based. Eight of the Fortune 10 are now Claude customers, the number of customers spending over $100,000 annually has grown 7x in the past year, and Claude Code’s run-rate revenue has grown to over $2.5 billion more than doubling since the beginning of 2026.
First, on April 20, Amazon formalised a deal committing up to $25 billion in fresh investment $5 billion immediately, the rest tied to commercial milestones alongside a pledge from Anthropic to spend over $100 billion on AWS infrastructure over the next decade.
Then, on April 24, Google confirmed a commitment of up to $40 billion, $10 billion now, with $30 billion contingent on performance targets paired with 5 gigawatts of additional Google Cloud computing capacity.

Together, these deals reflect something bigger than financial backing. They are strategic anchors. As AI transitions from experimentation to enterprise-scale deployment, both Google and Amazon are ensuring that Anthropic and its Claude models remain deeply embedded in their own cloud ecosystems.
With Anthropic now trading at an implied $1 trillion, and with a potential IPO widely anticipated, the company occupies a position few startups have ever held, simultaneously the most-funded, most-valued, and most-competed-over AI company on the planet.
Whether the numbers ultimately justify the hype remains to be seen. Nevertheless, one thing is already clear in 2026, the race to own a piece of Anthropic has become one of the defining competitions in the history of technology.
