India’s SWAYAM Plus Gets 3 New AI Courses from IIT Madras
IIT Madras' Ministry of Education-backed platform expands its AI curriculum to learners with no prior coding background, as total registrations cross 5.5 lakh

IIT Madras’ Ministry of Education-backed platform expands its AI curriculum to learners with no prior coding background, as total registrations cross 5.5 lakh.
IIT Madras’ SWAYAM Plus platform launched three AI courses on Thursday under its ‘AI for All’ campaign, developed in partnership with IITM Pravartak, targeting learners with no prior coding or AI experience.
The three offerings, AI for Aspiring Engineers, AI for Administrators, and Prompt Engineering, went live during a campus event marking two years of SWAYAM Plus operations. IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti introduced the courses at an event that brought together representatives from government, industry, and academia. Registration closes on the SWAYAM Plus portal on May 10, 2026.
AI for Aspiring Engineers, priced at Rs 500 plus GST, targets students moving from school to engineering and covers Python, AI, and machine learning using real engineering datasets. AI for Administrators, priced at Rs 100 plus GST, equips management professionals to apply AI, machine learning, and generative AI to decision-making. The Prompt Engineering course, also Rs 100 plus GST, covers effective interaction with AI systems to produce accurate outputs.

The launch comes as the platform marks its second year of operations. SWAYAM Plus Coordinator and IIT Madras Dean of Planning R. Sarathi said in an official statement that the platform “has grown significantly, now hosting over 500 online courses across more than 15 sectors, including engineering, BFSI, Indian Knowledge Systems, and IT/ITeS,” adding that “over 5,50,000 learners have registered on the platform” since inception.
That follows strong uptake from the campaign’s earlier batches. The first batch of five introductory AI courses, spanning disciplines including physics, chemistry, accounting, and cricket analytics, drew over 42,000 registrations after launching in May 2025. A second batch, which added AI for Educators aimed at K-12 teachers, drew more than 50,000 learners, per the official IIT Madras press release. Combined registrations across previous ‘AI for All’ batches exceed 92,000.
SWAYAM Plus is an initiative of the Ministry of Education, implemented by IIT Madras. The platform offers credit recognition for select courses. Learners can direct queries to pmu-sp@swayam2.ac.in.
