The Talents For Tech program, backed by Google.org, targets workers in administrative, customer service, and finance roles most exposed to AI-driven change across seven Central and Eastern European countries.

Talents For Tech announced June 17 that it will lead a regional AI upskilling program across Central and Eastern Europe, backed by more than $2.7 million in funding from Google.org. The initiative will train at least 11,000 people across Lithuania, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Moldova, and Poland by January 31, 2028.

The program targets workers in roles the organization describes as exposed to AI-driven disruption, including customer service, call center operations, sales support, bookkeeping and payroll, logistics coordination, and junior marketing positions. Training and registration have already begun through the AI Training Hub.

The program addresses an access gap that leaves some workers behind as AI adoption spreads. At the moment, too many people risk being left behind simply because they have not had the opportunity to learn.

The funding comes through Google.org’s AI Works for Europe initiative and its AI Opportunity Fund. Liza Ateh, head of Google.org for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, said the program is intended to prepare workers for changing job requirements rather than only fill existing openings, per the press release.

Coursework will be delivered through Coursera and includes Google-developed AI training content, the organization said. Talents For Tech will manage strategic direction and shared infrastructure across all seven countries, while local partner organizations will handle outreach, recruitment, and delivery tailored to each market.

The announcement cites Ipsos research indicating that workers need skills beyond prompt writing, including data analysis, cybersecurity, and change management, to benefit from AI adoption. A separate report from the Digital Coalition identifies a lack of competence as a primary barrier to AI adoption in the region, according to the announcement.

Talents For Tech traces its origins to Women Go Tech, a Lithuanian mentorship program for women in the technology sector founded in 2016. The European Commission has recognized the program’s methods for attracting women to the ICT sector; more than 50,000 people have been upskilled through it to date, the organization said.

Google.org describes itself as Google’s philanthropic arm, funding nonprofits and civic organizations globally.
