Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw laid the foundation stone of the AI data center at Tarluvada on April 28, marking the formal start of one of the largest foreign direct investments in India’s history.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw laid the foundation stone for Google’s $15 billion AI data center in Visakhapatnam on April 28.
This formally begins construction on one of the largest foreign direct investments in India’s history. Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and Jeet Adani, director of Adani Digital, also attended the ceremony at Tarluvada in Anandapuram mandal.
The facility, designated the Google Cloud India AI Hub, will be built across roughly 600 acres at three sites — Tarluvada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli — on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam. At full build-out, the campus will carry a capacity of 1 gigawatt.

AdaniConneX will handle core data center infrastructure, while Airtel Nxtra will build a high-capacity fiber network and an international subsea cable landing station along the city’s eastern coast.
The project is structured as a five-year build, with completion projected by July 2028. Andhra Pradesh has stated a longer-term goal of reaching 6.5 gigawatts of total data center capacity across the state.
At the ceremony, Vaishnaw called Visakhapatnam “AI Patnam,” positioning the city as a new eastern digital gateway for the country. Google has described the Vizag hub as a full-stack AI deployment integrating compute, storage, networking, and subsea connectivity.
The project is expected to generate jobs across AI operations, cloud architecture, cybersecurity, and data science. Neither Google nor the state government has confirmed specific hiring numbers.
