OpenAI has rolled out an AI-powered personal finance assistant inside ChatGPT Pro, helping users manage budgeting, spending insights, and financial planning more efficiently.
OpenAI launched a preview of personal finance tools in ChatGPT, allowing Pro subscribers in the U.S. to connect bank accounts and receive spending analysis, portfolio overviews, and budget planning through the chatbot.
The company partnered with financial data infrastructure firm Plaid to manage account connections. Users can link accounts across more than 12,000 financial institutions, including Chase, Fidelity, Schwab, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One.

Once accounts are connected, ChatGPT displays a dashboard covering portfolio performance, monthly spending, active subscriptions, and upcoming payments. Users access the tool by selecting “Finances” in the ChatGPT sidebar or by typing “@Finances, connect my accounts” in any conversation window.
The launch follows OpenAI’s April acquisition of the team behind personal finance startup Hiro, which had received backing from Ribbit Capital, General Catalyst, and Restive Ventures. OpenAI said the Hiro team’s finance expertise informed the product, but stopped short of confirming that the team built the full feature set.
The move comes as the company reported that more than 200 million users ask ChatGPT finance-related questions each month. The company said its GPT-5.5 Thinking model, set as the default for the Finances feature, scored 79 out of 100 on an internal personal finance benchmark developed with more than 50 finance professionals. GPT-5.5 Pro, available exclusively to Pro subscribers, scored 82.5. The company said it will evaluate feedback before rolling the tools out to Plus subscribers.
OpenAI said it plans to add Intuit support to the feature, which would enable tax-related analysis, including estimated implications of stock sales and credit card approval odds, processed inside ChatGPT.
On the data controls front, OpenAI said ChatGPT can view account balances, transactions, investments, and liabilities, but cannot access full account numbers or initiate transactions. Users can disconnect accounts at any time through Settings > Apps > Finances; OpenAI said synced data is deleted from its systems within 30 days of disconnection. Financial memories, a separate category of stored context such as savings goals or outstanding personal loans, can be reviewed and deleted from the Finances page.
Will Robinson said Plaid classifies income 48% more accurately than previous methods. Robinson added that Plaid connects to nearly every major account type, including checking accounts, savings accounts, investment accounts, and crypto wallets.
The personal finance tools are available on ChatGPT’s web interface and on iOS. Android support was not announced.
