Rohan Kochhar, who recently concluded his stint at OpenAI, has joined AI voice technology startup Wispr Flow as its Growth and Partnerships Lead for India, marking a key leadership hire as the company looks to deepen its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing AI markets.

Kochhar announced the move on LinkedIn, sharing that he would be leading growth and partnership initiatives for Wispr Flow in India. The appointment comes at a time when voice-based AI tools are gaining traction among professionals seeking faster and more natural ways to interact with technology.

Before joining Wispr Flow, Kochhar spent nearly a year at OpenAI, where he worked as a Project Manager, contributing across strategy, partnerships, and community initiatives. Reflecting on his departure from the company, he described the experience as transformative.

“Thank you for everything, OpenAI. You have made me a better person, both personally and professionally,” Kochhar wrote in a farewell LinkedIn post. “I have learned a ton, met incredible people, and had a front-row seat to a technology that’s changing the world.”

He also thanked Pragya Misra, OpenAI’s first employee in India and the company’s policy and partnerships lead for the country, for giving him the opportunity to be part of the organization.

Kochhar’s move to Wispr Flow comes as the startup ramps up its focus on India. Founded by former Stripe executive Tanay Kothari and entrepreneur Daniel McCallum, Wispr Flow develops an AI-powered voice keyboard that enables users to dictate text across applications, helping reduce typing time and improve productivity.

In a separate post announcing his new role, Kochhar noted that Indian users are already among Wispr Flow’s most active globally. He suggested that the company’s next challenge would be adapting voice AI for a country where communication happens across multiple languages and cultural contexts.

“Indian users are already among Wispr’s most active in the world. The job now is to figure out what voice means for a market that thinks, works, and lives across multiple languages,” he wrote.

Prior to OpenAI, Kochhar spent more than three years at Protiviti Digital, rising from Consultant to Senior Consultant. His experience spans consulting, digital strategy, partnerships, AI adoption, and business growth. He has also worked in sports management and hosts the podcast Panoramic Perspectives.

The appointment highlights Wispr Flow’s growing ambitions in India, a market increasingly viewed as critical for the next wave of AI adoption. With a large English-speaking population, strong mobile penetration, and growing interest in productivity-focused AI tools, India has become a strategic priority for many global AI companies.

As competition intensifies across the AI productivity space, Wispr Flow appears to be betting that voice-first computing will play a larger role in how users work and communicate. Kochhar’s mandate will likely focus on accelerating adoption, building partnerships, and helping shape the company’s India strategy as it expands its footprint in the region.
